It is a computer hardware component which have keys for typing.
It is one of the four main hardware components of the computer and also an input device. It does not only make typing easier but can also be used to move the mouse pointer in the absence of the mouse by activating the Turn on Mouse Keys option where the four arrow keys would be used to control the mouse pointer and also the numeric keypad could be used to move the pointer as well. 2 on the keypad moves the pointer down, 8 moves it up, 4 to the left and 6 to the right.

A flexible keyboard is flexible and can bend without breaking even though it has all the keys a keyboard should have For typing. Because of its ability to bend, it is easier to fold and take along wherever you are going to.
Laptop-size keyboards are smaller in size than the standard keyboards. They are designed that way to keep laptops small in size. They usually don’t have the numeric keypad.
Handheld keyboards are very small in size and easy to carry along. Their keys are much smaller in size compared to other keyboards. They also support wireless connection and can be used for smartphone, PDAs and IPads.
Multifunctional keyboards have all the keys of a standard keyboard and also have additional keys for performing other functions. These keyboards are frequently used by programmers.
Sections of keys on the keyboard
The keyboard keys have been divided into sections to make it more easier to use. The sections are listed below;
- Alphanumeric keys; A-Z, 0-9
- Numeric keypad; 0-9(on the right hand side), Num Lock, +,-,*,Enter,/,Del
- Function keys;F1-F12
- Control keys; Page Up, Page Down, End, Insert, etc.
- Cursor keys; They are the four keys with the left, up, down and right pointing arrows respectively.
